BREATHE

Don’t forget to breathe. In life, it’s automatic. It’s not something we have to think about. If you’re having trouble breathing stop reading this and dial 911.

Still here? Good. In your professional life you need to breathe, too. If you care about your career chances are you get stressed out from time to time. You might hit a wall. You might stumble. You might lose a gig, get two too many, make a mistake, hit a home run, hell, you might even fail remarkably at something. That’s okay. Breathe.

If things are going insanely well? Stop. Take a deep breath. Enjoy it.

If things are going to hell. Step away. Inhale. Hold it. Exhale. Identify the problem. Breathe. Seek the solution. Breathe. You got this.

All creators, the young gun just starting out, the Stephen Kings of the world, and you, need some distance from what you’re creating. You need some time to breathe. Whether you’re writing a novel, or you’ve lettered the 37th page today and your editors just keep sending you more. Take a walk. Breathe. The work will be there when you get back.
